SmtpServer.TimeoutGeneral Property

Specifies the General timeout in milliseconds.

[Visual Basic]
Public Property TimeoutGeneral As Integer
[C#]
public int TimeoutGeneral {get; set;}

Property Value

An integer value between 1 and 9999999 that represents the number of milliseconds that a general command sent to the mail server should pass before timing out.

Remarks

The default value is 60000 (1 minutes). This timeout is used to set the amount of time before an operation times out when sending the actual message data including attachments which require more time before timing out. If the operation times out before the entire message is sent, try increasing this value.

Example

[C#]
            public void Send()
            {
                 SmtpServer oSmtpDotNet = new SmtpServer();

                 // Set the remote server name. If left blank, "localhost" is used.
                 oSmtpDotNet.ServerAddress = "mail.domain.com";

                 // Set the general timeout to 1 second (1000ms).
                 oSmtpDotNet.TimeoutGeneral = 1000;

                 // Message Addressing
                 oSmtpDotNet.ToAddress = "to@domain.com";
                 oSmtpDotNet.FromAddress = "from@domain.com";

                 // Set the message subject and body
                 oSmtpDotNet.Body = "This is the message";
                 oSmtpDotNet.Subject = "Routine email";

                 ReturnCodes nRC = oSmtpDotNet.Send();
                 if ( nRC != ReturnCodes.SUCCESS )
                 {
                      Console.WriteLine("Error #"+nRC+" occurred.");
                      Console.WriteLine(oSmtpDotNet.LastError);
                      Console.Write(oSmtpDotNet.LogFileToString(false));
                      return;
                 }

                 // Success!
