Question/Issue Can I safely delete all the files in the data folder?
Answer/Solution The saved pages in the data folder contain a complete snapshot of a downloaded web page. These pages are referenced in some of the reports and are useful for viewing the web page when a watch item has failed.

You can safely delete them if you are concerned about disk space usage.

Question/Issue Will WebWatchBot work from cache if my site is down?
Answer/Solution WebWatchBot does not cache pages and will always retrieve new information from a Watch Item resource.

To ensure that your network is not caching output, create a Watch Item for the URL http://www.lagado.com/tools/cache-test. When the Watch Item first runs, note the "page serial number", then run the Watch Item again. If the number changes, then WebWatchBot's results are NOT cached. If the number does not change, then the results are being cached.

Question/Issue Will WebWatchBot back up data(watch items) automatically in case of a crash?
Answer/Solution The data is stored in a SQL Server database. In the event of a crash, the most up-to-date data should be intact.

When database maintenance is performed by WebWatchBot, a copy of the database is backed-up in the data folder in the sub-folder named "backup".

It is still recommended that the database and backup files are backed up periodically to a different location.

Question/Issue Is there a limit to the number of e-mails sent for SLA Status to be received when "down time" occurs?
Answer/Solution The SLA Status email alert will only send 10 times in a row, this is by design, to prevent flooding a recipients email account. Once the Watch Item Stats are cleared (Edit -> Clear Stats), the SLA Status email alert will send an email up to 10 times again once the threshold is met.

Question/Issue Is there any built in way to make reports available via a web server?
Answer/Solution You can set the file name and path of any report to be in a directory where you have a web application. For example, you can set a reportís path to: c:\inetpub\wwwroot\reports, then navigate to http://machinename/reports.

Question/Issue Is the license per user, location, CPU, or per machine?
Answer/Solution Licensing is per machine WebWatchBot is installed on, regardless of the number of users or CPUs.

One installation of WebWatchBot Professional can monitor up to 50 different Watch Items either on the same machine or on a remote machine.

One installation of WebWatchBot Enterprise can monitor an unlimited number of different Watch Items (limit is dependant on hardware and other factors) either on the same machine or on a remote machine.

Question/Issue Is it possible to configure the application to use a MAPI email server (i.e., Microsoft Exchange Server), or does it need to be an SMTP server?
Answer/Solution Though WebWatchBot cannot send email using MAPI, you should be able to specify your exchange server version 5.0 and above as the smtp server, and specify your profile name as the "from" email address. This is assuming that you have the SMTP connector setup for Exchange.

Question/Issue Will I need to uninstall previous versions before upgrading to a newer version?
Answer/Solution You will need to uninstall WebWatchBot, then install the newer version .

Before you do that, you should back up your data:

If you are running Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 back-up all files and directories under:
\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ExclamationSoft\WebWatchBot [3/4/5]

Your data will NOT be deleted, but it is a good idea to have a backup just in case there is a problem.

Question/Issue How to I set up a watch item to POST to a form?
Answer/Solution As a rule of thumb, the POST data string should be formatted in name=value pairs, separated by ampersands "&", e.g., it should be formatted like an HTTP query string.

The name=value pairs should be comprised of every <input>, <textarea>, and <select> tag. The "name" should be the value expressed in the <input>, <textarea>, and <select>, e.g.:
<input name="username"..> would have POST text:
usuername=somevalue

The URL specified for this watch item should be the URL specified for the "ACTION" attribute of the <form> tag, e.g.,
<form action="http://www.domain.com/formaction.pl">
would have the watch item URL of http://www.domain.com/formaction.pl

Category WebWatchBot Errors (Not Relating to Installation)
Question/Issue For some HTTP watch types, switching to the Output view causes a program crash.
Answer/Solution UPDATE: A check has been added at start up to alert users to turn off script debugging which is causing this problem.

Symptoms:
Watch Items of type HTTP or HTTPS load very slowly. When trying to view the output of some of these types of Watch Items, the WebWatchBot Manager application will pop-up a dialog asking if I want to debug the application.

Cause:
This problem involves two issues:
1. The Windows script debugger is installed on the same computer and script debugging is enabled.
2. The page being monitored has a JavaScript error.

Resolution/Workaround:
To workaround the problem, you will need to change a setting for Internet Explorer:
1. Open the control panel: Start -> Control Panel
2. Open the Internet Options control panel applet.
3. Select the "Advanced" tab.
4. Under the section "Browsing", ensure the option "Disable Script Debugging" is checked.

Category WebWatchBot Installation
Question/Issue During installation, the error message is displayed: "Another Version of this product is already installed."
Answer/Solution The entire error message is:
"Another Version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue. To Continue configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the control panel"

This issue can occur when trying to install when a copy of WebWatchBot is already installed. Follow these steps to resolve the issue:

1. Uninstall the program through Add/Remove Programs on the control panel.
2. Install WebWatchBot

If that does not resolve the problem, the installation may not have been completely and properly removed. Microsoft provides a tool to remove programs that were installed using the Windows Installer:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=290301

Please be advised that ExclamationSoft does not support the above tool and you are advised to use at your own risk.
